What is a Combo Multi?
A combo multi is also known as an exotic multi, a system bet, or a combination bet. It takes your selections and automatically combines them into every smaller multi possible, including doubles, trebles, and beyond. Your stake isn't locked into one all-or-nothing bet.
This is the main difference from a standard multi. In a standard multi, every leg has to win for you to get a return. In a combo multi, you can still walk away with a profit even if one or two selections let you down, because it spreads your stake across multiple smaller bets instead of just one.
The trade-off is cost. Each combo type combines a set number of individual bets, and you stake on every one of them. More bets means a bigger total outlay, but also more chances to get a return.
Special bookmaker offers: Many Australian bookmakers run promotions on combo multis, especially during major racing carnivals like the Spring Carnival. These can include boosted returns, a refund if only one leg misses, or bonus bets tied to a specific combo type. Terms vary by bookmaker and market, so always check the offer details before you bet.
Examples of Combo Multis
These are some available combo multi types and the minimum winners needed for a return:
Say you back three selections at odds of 2.50, 3.00 and 1.80, and Selection C loses while A and B win.
Trixie Example ($10 per bet, $40 total stake)
The total stake was $40, so you walk away with a $35 profit, even though one of your three selections lost.
Patent Example (Same Selections, $10 per bet, $70 total stake)
The total stake was $70, so the profit comes to $60. The Patent costs more upfront because it includes singles, but it only needs one winner for a return, and it pays out more here since two of the three selections won.
